Helen Martin

I started running in 2010 training for a sprint triathlon.  In the process, I met and befriended some great running friends who somehow led me to running more.  I started off running a 10k then some half marathons and then a couple marathons in 2011.  I started running ultras in 2012.  For my 10th ultra, I ran and finished my first 100 miler, Rio Del Lago (RDL) in 2013.

My biggest goal has been to run Western States 100.  I tried for a 3 years and got in for 2015 but couldn’t run it as I had a wonderful baby girl that same month.  Since then, I’ve been trying to balance motherhood and running.  And, in November 2015 (5 months postpartum), I managed to finish RDL 100 while carrying my baby with me across the finish.

I love running, especially the longer distances.  But, I also enjoy doing other crazy endurance events in cycling and triathlons as well.  Some of my other more memorable events have been: Zion 100 (2014), Fourmidable 50k (2014), Grand Canyon R2R2R (2013), Death Ride (2012, 2013, 2014),  Davis Double Century (2012, 2013, 2014), Vineman Full (2013), NYC Marathon (2011), CIM (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015), and Singletrack Running’s K2 Challenge (2015 – while 7 months pregnant).
